Schedule Change-- Next Dinner March 6!
We are moving the next dinner back a week so as not to clash with the 30th birthdays of two members of the Lotería team. This means that the next dinner will be on Saturday, March 6 at 7 pm, and we are looking forward to putting the menu below together. The house has been full of delicious "test" pupusas and a new homemade mexican chocolate triple sec sorbet that we just may need to work in to the menu...

Thank you to our guests!
We want to say thanks to our guests from Saturday night, you made the evening a lot of fun! We enjoyed meeting some new people and seeing some old friends, and any group that is going to want seconds in the early hours of the morning while they are still at our table has a place in our hearts. We will post photos as well as the menu for the next dinner on the 27th soon.

Wine Pairings for Valentine's Dinner!
Last night the Lotería Supper Club team visited Sorsi e Morsi in Prenzlauer Berg to get their genius proprietor's suggestions for wine pairings for the Valentine's Dinner, and we are so excited with the results.
1. 2008 Erste & Neue Kellerei Sauvignon. This bright, fresh, young wine is from the Alto Adige region of Südtirol. It has a well balanced sweetness that will stand up well to the slight spiciness of the squash soup and is complex enough to wake your taste buds up for the rest of the meal. This is no insipid white wine, and I think that even those who prefer red will enjoy it.
2. 2007 Rosa Grande Rosato. We had originally thought to pair the warm spinach salad with roasted beets with a full bodied white, but when Johnny produced the Rosato from Sardinia for us to try we knew it was perfect. I love a good dry Rosé, particularly this one that had flavors of raspberries, rose petals, citrus, and tomato skins.
3. 2005 Tenuta Coppadoro Cotinone. A blend of Aglianico, Montepulciano, and Carbernet Sauvignon aged in oak, the Cotinone comes from Puglia. It's big and bold and has the wood and tannins we were looking for, and will be a good complement for the richness of the braised lamb shanks.
We are still on the search for the perfect port to end the meal with, but the beginning is a family favorite with a twist. My dad is the all time margarita champion, so we will be using his recipe with the addition of some fresh pomegranate juice.
For those of you who have not yet been to Sorsi e Morsi, go immediately. Walk in and tell Johnny what you'd like to drink and he will find the perfect bottle and pour you a taste. If you love it, have a glass. If not, tell him exactly what you don't like about it and he will find you something just right.
